A New York-based firm that has developed a treatment for impotence is set to launch its new product line in the US in the spring.
The company has been developing an innovative treatment for erectile dysfunction, the first treatment in a new class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors.
The first such drug is Viagra, which was approved in the US in 1998.
Viagra, which is manufactured by Pfizer and marketed as an erectile dysfunction treatment by Pfizer, treats erectile dysfunction by improving blood flow to the penis.
Pfizer is hoping the new drug will be available in the US in a more convenient, generic form, with the option to buy the drug in generic under the name Revatio.
“We are very excited about how the new Viagra will feel for the first time. We look forward to delivering this product,” said Eli Lilly’s chief executive officer, John Dingell.
Revatio, sold under the brand name Cialis, is a combination of two drugs, sildenafil (Viagra) and tadalafil (Cialis), which work together to relax blood vessels in the penis to make erection easier. The drug is used to treat erectile dysfunction.
In the US, the treatment is called PDE-5 inhibitor. Viagra works by increasing blood flow to the penis, which helps men with ED achieve and sustain an erection. The drug is available as a generic or as a branded tablet.
Erectile dysfunction, also known as impotence, is a common condition that affects millions of men worldwide. It is one of the leading causes of sexual dysfunction in men, and is estimated to affect half of all men over 50 years old.
